To my lovely Year 4s,

I can’t believe that this week is our final week as a Year 4 class! I am so unbelievably proud of you all and have loved teaching you. Without fail, you have put a smile on my face every single day! Whilst learning at home, I have been so proud of your learning and impressed with how you have adapted and worked so hard! I have loved reading your messages on Showbie and keeping in touch with you at this time. You should be so proud of yourselves! Miss Waite is a VERY lucky teacher to have you in her class next year and I have passed on just how wonderful you all are. She can’t wait for September already!

To prepare you for moving into Year 5, Miss Waite has prepared some activities for you. Click on the button below to go to your transitions page to access this.

Week 16: W/C 6th July

Hello again my lovely Year 4s!

I hope that you had a brilliant weekend and got up to lots of lovely activities. How windy was Sunday? I went for a lovely walk and guess what I saw? Have a look at the picture below.

…piglets! How exciting is that? Despite the very windy weather, I stood and watched them for ages. It was really lovely and a nice reminder of how wonderful God’s beautiful world is! Please make sure you tell me something lovely about your weekend on Showbie because it always puts a big smile on my face to hear about what you have been up to.

I have been so so so so so so so so proud of your efforts in home learning. Please keep it up this week! I continued to be impressed with your efforts on Mathletics this week. We had James H with 4 hours 39 minutes, Isabella with 3 hours and 38 minutes, Jake with 3 hours 15 minutes and then Isabelle with 3 hours! How amazing is that?

Your efforts have not gone unnoticed on spelling shed either…We have 6 children who made the top 20 for the WHOLE school! How impressive is that? We had Jake who was 2nd, Bobby 7th, Charlie who was 10th, Lucca 11th, Jess 13th and Isabelle was in 19th! I am SO PROUD! Well done Year 4!

This week, there are two focuses for the week. The first one is that on Tuesday it is World Chocolate Day! So, guess what? There is a bit of a chocolate theme for the week. Delish! The other focus is transition into Year 5. Miss Waite has put some great activities for you to try this week so have a look at the ‘PSHE’ section on this page to go to that area of the website. I will always send on the work to Miss Waite too so she will definitely see it!

This week is the last week that I will be posting work on this page- don’t worry this page will stay up and more activities will be set on your Year 5 transition page! I know you have a transition session with Miss Waite on the final week and I’m going to pop along to say hi to you all too! I can’t wait to see your smiley faces because I have missed you all lots and lots!

Can’t wait to hear from you all on Showbie and to see what wonderful work you get up to this week.

This week, I would like for you to set up a special prayer table for the last two weeks of Year 4. I would like you to set up a jar where you add things that you are grateful for this year. Here are mine to help you.

  1. I am so grateful to have taught you all this year. You all make me smile every day.
  2. I am so grateful that I have my lovely family.

I would also like you to say this end of this prayer too.

Could you write your own end of the year prayer?

Here is a picture of Jessica’s prayer table from May to help you get some ideas for how your prayer table could look. Remember that because we are in ordinary time that the cloth needs to be green.

SPaG

This week in SPaG, I want you to try something a little bit different. I was set the most brilliant SPaG mystery by Orla and Erin this week. The mystery was called,’The Mystery of the Missing Boots’. I had so much fun completing it and I know the girls had to use lots of their SPaG understanding to complete this. So, your challenge this week is to create your own SPaG mystery! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! You could always send your mysteries to each other too!

This week, I want you to work on your family square if you haven’t already. Please see the information below to help you with this. I can’t ait to see what you do! Don’t forget to send a picture of them on Showbie so thatI get a sneak peak!

Family Squares Letter

As a school community we have spent a lot of unexpected time apart and it may be a
little longer before we are all back together as a school again.
We thought it would be lovely to make a commemorative piece as a school to
remember this time and to celebrate when we can finally gather together in full
again. The finished piece will be displayed in the ICT suite.
We would like to invite all staff and families to make a ‘lockdown square’. This is a
way for you to capture what this time has meant for you as a family. You could make
one square as a family or you may prefer to make one square per child in your
family. It’s up to you to choose.
It would be fantastic if you could make a fabric collage or use fabric paints, felt letters
and shapes, wool, threads, cross stitch, old socks (clean!) jeans, t-shirts, pillow
cases, even your St Joseph’s jumper that you might have outgrown, to make your
fabric square.

Please return your completed family square (with your family name and children’s class details on the back) to school by Friday 10th July.

Week 15: W/C 29th June

Hello Year 4! I hope you have had a lovely weekend. The sunshine was lovely last week, wasn’t it? I know lots of you enjoyed some time playing outside. Some of you even told me about playing in your paddling pools. I was very jealous and wished that I had had one! This week, I have themed our page in sunshine and seaside because I felt inspired with the weather. Luckily, I planned this all before the weekend because it would have had to be themed about rain and thunder! Never mind- the rain is great for the flowers!

I also wanted to tell you all how proud I am of your efforts. It adds sparkle to my day seeing your great work on Showbie! I am SO impressed. Please keep it up because your efforts will really help you to make progress in your learning.

On Mathletics and Spelling Shed this week, there has been some excellent efforts! Remember to go on little and often to boost your learning! This week we have some amazing times. James H has managed to work for 6 hours, Eamonn for 3 hours and Annabelle for 2 hours and 39 minutes. How amazing is that? I can’t not mention Oliver and Isabelle who both worked for over two hours on it too! Jake is still leading the way on Spelling Shed and finished the week in the top ten for the whole of school. I can’t wait to see the time and effort you put in next week.

I hope you all have a brilliant week. I miss you all lots and look forward to popping to school during your transition time on the final to say hi!

Science/PSHE/Computing

Last week, you completed an experiment all about the damage to teeth using eggs, water, vinegar, a fizzy drink/ juice. You agreed with me that this was rather a smelly ‘eggperiment’! If you didn’t manage to do this experiment take a look at the picture from Isabella which showed the results.

Look at these! The vinegar has damaged the shell and it all broke off and the egg that was in sugary juice has become stained. This shows that the food that we eat can really damage our teeth. It is OK to have sugary or acidic food sometimes but it is really important that we look after them! So, your task this week is to create a poster, PowerPoint or Keynote presentation to explain how to look after teeth. You could even (if you have access to this app) create a video and put it onto iMovie. I can’t wait to see the results of your hard work!

Week 14: W/C 22nd June

Hello Year 4! The lovely weather is to return this week which always puts a smile on my face. My cat Delilah spends extra time outside when it is sunny. She loves to sleep and sunbathe in the sun! I find it really tricky to get her in at night when it is warm but I just rattle her cat food and she is a bit more convinced. What pets do you have at home? Lauren has told me all about her cat and dog, Joseph has told me about Kika his cheeky dog, Lila and her cute little fluffy bunnies and of course Annabelle’s rabbits too! I am always up for hearing what your cheeky animals have been up to when you  message me on Showbie!

Beautiful Delilah resting in the sunshine!

I saw some excellent work from you last week and I was pleased to see so many end results from the DT project of mummifying fruit. Orla said it was a bit stink- sorry about that! I have another experiment for you to try this week in Science that could be a bit stinky too…. It’s one of my favourite experiments to do at school! Take a look in the Science section to see what it is….This week’s Mathletics was tight! Lots of you had done over two hours which was the winning time. Isabelle  spent the most time this week with 2 hours 57 min, Annabelle got second with 2 hours 46 minutes and Isla was in third with 2 hours and 36 minutes. Well done girls! Can we have an all boys top three next week on Mathletics? On Spelling this week our class got the top spot for points! Well done Year 4! I want to see if we can make it two weeks in a row. Let’s put extra effort into Spelling Shed this week! A big well done to Jake  and Bobby who are in the top 10 for the whole school! Let’s be top of the board again next week!

This week I have gone down a mystery theme… I know you will enjoy this!!

Week 13: W/C 15th June

Hello Year 4! Again, I am missing you all but SO proud of the hard work that you have been up to this week! I couldn’t be prouder of your efforts- they really make me smile! A big well done to Eamonn, Oliver, Lucca, Isabelle, Joseph, Ruari, Reuben, Amber and Isla who have all recently achieved a silver certificate on Mathletics. What an amazing achievement! A big well done to all those children who completed lots of learning last week too- you know who you are and I am SO proud of you. I have been sending Miss Milivojevic names of children who have worked extra hard to get head teacher’s awards too- could you get your name on that list this week?

I hope you all have a really good week. Please tell me what you have been up on the weekends too- you give me great ideas! Last week, Lucca baked a pie so obviously I had to bake too! Yum yum!

Baby Harrison is getting nice and strong now. I only have 12 weeks until I get to meet them. I didn’t find out if baby is a boy or girl so I am excited to find out when baby arrives!. Art

For this week’s Art, we are continueing with our theme about the River Nile. For this week, I want you to be inspired by an artist called Andy Goldsworthy. Read a little bit about this artist below.

I want you to take some inspiration from him this week. I want you to use items from nature and create a picture of the river nile. This could be it far away on a map, or up closer like we had in our art work last week. Please use these pictures below to help inspire you with how to use nature in artwork.

Computing

This week, I want you to refresh your computing skills from earlier in the year. I want you to create a presentation all about the River Nile using the app ‘Keynote’. To be successful on your key note, I want to see at least 4 pages with information and pictures on each. Don’t forget to add links to your pages too! Here is a picture of Lucia’s one from the start of the year to refresh your minds on what it looked like.

Here are some ideas for the different pages of information that you could use for your own presentation:

  • Why was the River Nile so important to the Ancient Egyptians?
  • Why did they live so close to the River Nile?
  • Where is the River Nile?

I can’t wait to see the final results on Showbie! If you need any help, please send me a message and I can help you!

SPaG

SPaG this week isn’t quite linked to your theme- I couldn’t find one! However, I couldn’t not add another SPaG mystery on here because I have heard so many of you saying that you enjoy them which is great to hear! So, just so that you didn’t miss out on these this week I have added a couple for you to try.

One of the activities contains work about the present perfect which you might be a bit rusty with. I have added some help below and some worksheets to help you refresh your memory.

Our learning this week is all about the gruesome process of MUMMIFICATION!

Read these below to help you understand the whole process.

Now, your task is to write out the instructions for the process of mummification. You need to include all of the following features. Don’t forget to draw illustrations next to your instructions too!

Science

Last week, you started to look at the different functions of teeth. I was really impressed with your efforts to put the teeth in the right place. A big shout out to Isabelle, Isabella, Lauren, Orla and Amber who all did such a brilliant job that I thought that they had sent me the answer sheets by mistake! Reuben also made a brilliant model of teeth using play-doh. Have you given this activity a go yet? Give it a try- I know that you will enjoy it!

You will need to use this understanding to help with your understanding this week. I have attached a link to the BBC Bitesize website so that you can rewatch the videos and read the information again to refresh your memory.

Week 9: W/C 18th May

Hello Year 4! I hope that you all had a lovely week last week and that are looking forward to what this week has to bring! Showbie last week was even busier than the last and I was so pleased to see you all on there showing off the wonderful work that you had completed. In fact, I had to ask some of you if you even sleep because you have just done so much. Let’s aim to have an even BUSIER week on Showbie this week. I love seeing all of your work coming through and it really makes me smile when I see pictures and videos of you all completing the activities that have been set.

I hope that you have all enjoyed the shout out page and taking on each other’s challenges. If you look on the ‘Learning at Home’ page for the whole school you will see what the staff have been up to to. We were so inspired by what you were doing we needed a whole page of our own. I hope to get you all on the shout out page again this week so please tell me when you are especially proud of something!

I want to say a special well done to Lucca, Lila, Jake, Jess and Bobby who showed the best effort on Spelling Shed this week. They showed that little and often is the best way! Can you be on the list next week?

Your effort on Mathletics this week has just been incredible. Now, when I say incredible, I really, really mean it. This week the top spots were very tight! In first place this week was Oliver with an incredible 4 hours 42 minutes, then in second is Julia with 3 hours 8 minutes and in third is Lila with 2 hours and 56 minutes! I told you it was incredible, didn’t I? To top this off I want to say a big well done to all of these other children who clocked 2 hours or more last week. They are Eamonn, Ava, Jayden, Jake, Reuben, Jack and Lucca. Well done to them all!

This week is a PSHE themed week which you will notice in your activities. The staff of St Joseph’s have been doing an extra special surprise to help mark the beginning of this week:

I can’t wait to see what you all get up to this week!

Best wishes,

Mrs Harrison

PSHE

This week is a PSHE themed week. We started some activities last week and I loved seeing your positivity jars. A big shout out to Lauren, Jessica and Isabella who sent me some great pictures of theirs on Showbie! Please feel free to go back to last week’s page and complete the positvity jar activity. Be kind to yourself  and celebrate all of the wonderful things about yourselves.

To start this week, I want you to create a wellness journal. There is an attachment for you to write about your goals, a place to reflect on your feelings and for you to consider what you are grateful for. I have attached a different journal for each day of the week below.

Monday’s JournalTuesday’s Journal Wednesday’s Journal Thursday’s Journal Friday’s Journal

Wellness Activities

Below are 7 ideas for activities you could do together with your family. These are sure to make you and others smile!

Kindness- Bucket Filling

At school, we often talk about filling people’s buckets with our kindness and good choices. We also talk about bucket dipping for not such great choices. Have a look at the author reading the book to you in the video below.

What could you do this week to fill someone’s bucket? I want you to keep a record of all of the times you filled someone’s bucket this week and all the time that someone filled your bucket too! I have attached a copy of a bucket worksheet that you can use but you can present the ways that you filled in any way that you want. Be creative and don’t forget to show me through Showbie. It will fill my bucket seeing the different ways that you have been bucket fillers! 🙂

Bucket Filling Activity Sheet

Virtues

This week, I want you to consider ways that you can spread kindness and happiness to those around you. On the calendar, you will find a range of activities that you could do to make yourself and others happy with your kindness. Pick a few that you want to do- don’t try to do them all. Don’t forget it to add to your bucket filling activity too!

Virtues Calendar

If you want to, you could download the resource and follow the instructions to create the ‘windows’ on the calendar (a little like an Advent calendar at Christmas) so you can open the windows each day and by the end you will have all the windows opened/ripped off. You won’t be able to do this within a week but it’s just an idea 🙂

RE

For RE this week, I want you to reflect on what makes you AMAZING. We are all part of God’s creation and he loves us all. You are bright sunshine in lots of people’s lives and you make us all so happy. I want you to praise yourself! For this activity, I would like you to either print this picture of the sun or draw and decorate your own. Then, on the lines, I want you to write something amazing about yourselves and your life. Take your time and don’t rush. You will have so many idea and I can’t wait to read them all on Showbie 🙂

Reading

Your reading efforts have been incredible! I know that lots of you have started really delving into series of books and are thoroughly enjoying your reading.

The other one is linked to a man that you might have heard of in recent weeks: Captain Tom Moore! Please have a go at these and remember your skimming and scanning skills. You need to look at the questions and find the key words to help you answer. I know that Oliver got very good at that last week!

For Science, I was really impressed by your classification keys. I was really impressed with Amber’s speedy work as she made this tricky task seem so easy! Joseph did too! Not everyone completed the challenges so please look back at last week’s Science to complete this work.

For those of you who did complete it, I want to challenge you to create a classification key for everyone that lives in your house. I have created one below of my household to give you some ideas! You could either draw it out yourself or on the computer like I have (which isn’t easy!)

Art

This week, Amber wanted to challenge you to do some drawing! So, this week’s drawing challenge is to draw King Tut! I have put on here a step-by-step guide. Week 8: W/C 11th May

Hello Year 4!  Thank you all so much for your hard work last week. I was so impressed with your efforts and I loved seeing the work that you produced. I also really enjoy videos and photographs; it puts the biggest smile on my face to see the smiles on your faces. In fact, I’m very jealous that your parents are getting to spend all that time with you all- I certainly miss the smiles and laughter you bring into the classroom every single day! Please continue to send me lots of these throughout the week 🙂 Please also tell me any extra things too. For example, I loved hearing that Jayden read to his baby sister last week!

Last week, I started to make some more phone calls again to chat to you. I will continue to ring this week so pleased don’t be surprised or worried when you know that I have rung. You aren’t in trouble! Please think of some things you want to tell me too. I like hearing all about what you have been up to. Not so many broken bones though hey, Erin!

I want to start with a big well done for your learning on the learning platforms. This week, the child with the most time spent was Bobby with an impressive 2 hours and 48 minutes! Following in a VERY close 2nd and 3rd are Annabelle with 2 hours and 31 minutes and then Anna only one minute behind with 2 hours and 30 minutes! An excellent effort! I’m still waiting for someone to beat Jake and his outstanding 6 hours 0 minutes the week before! I’m going to have a really good look at spellings this week so aim to earn some honeypots every day and I you will see your name on here next week!

I hope you also all really enjoyed the VE day celebrations. Jessica and Isabelle showed me some pictures of their celebrations. Have you got any to share? I would love to see them!

Lots of you ask me about the baby and I thought this week I would share my most recent picture of the baby. I had a check up a few weeks ago and baby is growing well and I am starting to get lots of kicks in my belly. Apparently, the baby is now 29cm- that is nearly as long as our rulers at school! I thought you would all enjoy to know that baby was a bit cheeky on VE day. The baby was a bit naughty and gave me a really big karate chop during the 2 minute silence! How cheeky!

Stay Safe Online

Please remember to to stay safe online while you are completing home learning. You know this so well but it is so important you practice what you preach. The easiest way to remember how to be safe online is to STOP, BLOCK and TELL if something you see doesn’t quite feel right or makes you feel worried or uncomfortable. Remember to tell a trusted adult – it is fine to send me a message on Showbie as I can still help you even though we are not together in school.

RE

Your work on Sikhism has been amazing! I love seeing all of our creative ways of presenting information when finding out about another faith.
