Week 17: W/C 13th July
To my wonderful Year 3’s,
This week marks the end of your school year in Year 3. It has been a year like no other, and one that none of us will forget.
However, I am bursting with pride over your effort, hard work and resilience to persevere and accomplish so many wonderful achievements! You have so much to celebrate about being you and for that you should be immensely proud. I have loved reading all your comments, watching your videos and seeing week after week your motivation and determination to try your very best, with your home learning.
You have all grown so much in independence and confidence to become resilient, active learners in Key Stage 2. I wish you all the very best as you continue your learning journey in Year 4. Be the shining stars that you all are and achieve nothing but your very best.
Miss Hegedus has a wonderful year planned for you. Remember, I am only next door so please come and say hello. I always like to see your smiling faces and hear how you are doing.
I hope you enjoy you transition session with Miss Hegedus on Thursday. I too will be in school that day so hopefully I can say hello, from a safe distance.

This week we will be thinking about positive memories so I thought it would be nice to share with you some memories of your time in whilst in Year 3.

PSHE- Celebrating being me
Positive memories
This week, I would like to reflect on your time whilst in Year 3 and think about all the amazing memories you made with your class mates. I would like you to make a positive memory jar filled with all your lovely thoughts. You may wish to do this using an empty jar and draw or write down these memories. However, you may want to do this on paper. I have attached a sheet for this too. I looked forward to hearing all about your happy, funny memories.
RE/ART
Jesus teaches us to treat others as we would like to be treated and God’s most important commandment is to love God and to love your neighbour as yourself. For RE this week, I would like you to be kind to yourself and treat yourself the way you would treat others. Often, it is easy to forget about being kind to ourselves and to celebrate who we are..
Step 1: (Art) Create a tree. Check out the awesome drawing tricks below to help you get creative with your tree.
For the RE part of this task, you will need to be able to write on the leaves.
Step 2: Fill the tree
Once your Artwork has dried, on each leaf, write all of your amazing qualities – the things you are good at, your personality traits that make you, you such as kindness, patience, courage.. Take inspiration from the Bible quote above. You can also write the things that you like about your life on the leaves – it might be something to do with your family, your friends, where you live, your hobbies, what you enjoy doing, what food you enjoy – anything that makes you happy and makes you who you are! As an extra challenge, you could find Bible quotes about kindness and the qualities that you have to fill around the edge of your paper.
I would like you to take time and be thoughtful with what you write. You will have so many wonderful ideas because you are all amazing! I would love to see your trees once they are full so please send them to me on Showbie. Finally, enjoy the task – perhaps your whole family could make a tree each at the same time.
Reading
This week I would you to write a book review about your favourite book that you read. Why would you recommend this book to others to read?It can be any book of your choice and you can write more than one book review if you wish to do so.

It doesn’t have to rhyme, however you may wish to write a poem that does. I have attached some different acrostic poems for you to choose from. I look forward to reading them on Showbie. L.O -To investigate what life was like for Tudor children.
What do you think the biggest differences between growing up in Tudor times and growing up in modern times would have been? Life as a Tudor child depended very much on whether you were rich or poor, or a boy or a girl. Go through the information on the slides about the lives of poor Tudor boys and girls.
One star- organise the statements into two piles:Tudor children and modern children. Discuss why.
Two star- C organise the statements into two piles: Tudor children and modern children. When finished, list as many similarities and differences between Tudor and modern children as you can on worksheet 6A.
Three star- From what you have learnt using books, the internet etc, create your own statements about what life was like for Tudor children. Arrange these statements on a large sheet of paper. Can you arrange them by
category (e.g. leisure, school rich children, poor children, etc.).
DT
Family Lockdown Squares Letter
Hopefully you have all seen the letter from Mrs Ward that was sent to your parents about creating a family lockdown square. I would love all of Year 5 to be part of this project so this week, DT is focused on this!
As a school community we have spent a lot of unexpected time apart and it may be a
little longer before we are all back together as a school again.
We thought it would be lovely to make a commemorative piece as a school to
remember this time and to celebrate when we can finally gather together in full
again. The finished piece will be displayed in the ICT suite.
We would like to invite all staff and families to make a ‘lockdown square’. This is a
way for you to capture what this time has meant for you as a family. You could make
one square as a family or you may prefer to make one square per child in your
family. It’s up to you to choose.
It would be fantastic if you could make a fabric collage or use fabric paints, felt letters
and shapes, wool, threads, cross stitch, old socks (clean!) jeans, t-shirts, pillow
cases, even your St Joseph’s jumper that you might have outgrown, to make your
fabric square.
I would love to fill our shout out page with all of your family lockdown squares so please send me your creations as well as following the instructions on the letter.
Please return your completed family square (with your family name and children’s class details on the back) to school by Friday 10th July.

L.O. To investigate whether plants need soil to grow.
This week I would like you to work scientifically to investigate whether plants need soil to grow. For this experiment you will need seeds, plastic cups or you could use an empty egg box. You will need to a range of materials to replace the soil. This could be cotton wool, sand or paper. Remember to make a prediction first and consider how you ensure that your test is fair. I have attached some planning sheets for your investigation. Record your prediction, the method (what you did) and your results as to what you found out.

Science-How plants grow
L.O To explore some of the ways in which flowering plants disperse their seeds.
Can you correctly order these stages in the life cycle of flowering plants? Discuss your idea.Once fertilised by pollen, ovules in the ovary of the flower grow to form seeds. The flower of the plant starts to change as the seeds grow. Look at the slides explaining the process where the flowering part of the plant becomes a fruit. All plants need to disperse their seeds so that they don’t fall on the ground underneath them. Why? Discuss and share your ideas. Did you think of any of these reasons? Look at the slides giving reasons. How do plants disperse their seeds? There are a number of tricks that plants use to disperse their seeds. Did you think of any of these? As you all know, the month of May is dedicated to our Mother, Mary. Whilst we honour Mary every day throughout the year, through prayer, reflection and song, during the month of May, Mary is specially honoured and there are many ways in which we can do this from home.
During May why not try some of the following activities:
- each day, put time aside to pray, remembering especially the work of our Mother, Mary
- arrange fresh flowers on your prayer table at home

Also to Thomas who has consistently worked hard on the challenges set and then responded to feedback! Shout out to Charlie who has been practising keepie up at football. I was blown away by his concentration and skill to do this. He has now achieved 235 keepie ups in one minute and is continuing try and break this personal record. Stay safe online
Just a reminder Year 3 to remember to stay safe online while you are completing home learning. You know the idea behind this but it’s up to you now to put it into practice. This means that you know lots of ways to stay safe on line but now you need to act on this yourself. The easiest way is to remember to STOP, BLOCK and TELL. Also, remember if anything worries you, it’s also fine to send me a message on Showbie as I can still help you even though we are not together at school.

Then make your own special May altar dedicated to Mary (just like we do in class for collective worship). You can decide what you want to put on it.
