Pupil Premium
What is pupil premium?
Pupil Premium is funding additional to the main school budget. The grant is allocated in three parts: pupil premium for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals in any of the previous six years, looked after children and those from families with parents in the Armed Forces.
Schools are free to spend pupil premium as they see fit to raise achievement and improve outcomes for these pupils.
How is pupil premium used at St Joseph’s?
- We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils.
- We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of Pupil Premium pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.
- We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to include support for any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being vulnerable.
- Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all Pupil Premium children will be in receipt of interventions at one time.
How could pupil premium be used at St Joseph’s?
The ranges of provision Governors may consider include:
- reducing teaching group sizes by setting thus improving opportunities for effective Assessment for Learning and accelerating progress,
- providing small group work with an experienced teacher focussed on overcoming gaps in learning,
- 1-1 support, and
- additional teaching and learning opportunities provided through Parent Support Workers, Learning Mentors, trained Learning Assistants or external agencies.
What is our overall target for those in receipt of pupil premium?
All our work through the pupil premium will be aimed at accelerating progress moving children to at least age related expectations. Initially, this will be in English and Maths.
Pupil Premium resources may also be used to target able Pupil Premium children to achieve greater depth in any year group.
The Governors of the school will publish information on how they have used their Pupil Premium Grant to address the issue of ‘narrowing the gap’, for Pupil Premium pupils.
We are very proud of the letter received in September 2018 from the Leeds Learning Improvement Team in relation to the improved outcomes that we have achieved for our disadvantaged pupils. We are committed to providing the very best outcomes for our pupils and we continue to ensure our pupil premium grant is allocated to ensuring we continue to close the gap for our disadvantaged pupils.
