Autumn 2: Week 4: W/C 23rd November 2020 (Bubble Closure Home Learning Tasks)

Hi Year 5! Well, we’re nearly at the end of our isolation! We’re nearly there! Just two more days of home learning and we will all be back at school together. Miss Milivojevic, Miss Quenby, Mr Cooper and I have all been SO proud of you all for your continued hard working efforts and resilience whilst you have been learning at home. You have not let this time stop you from progressing with your learning and I can’t wait for all of us to come back together and share all of the wonderful things you’ve done whilst learning from home. I am especially proud of the quality of the work you have completed at home – it really has been excellent!

It was lovely speaking with so many of you last week and I know Miss Quenby and Mr Cooper enjoyed speaking with many of you on the phone too. Please continue to send your work on Showbie and to keep in touch with us. We love to hear from you and how you are doing. If you do need any more help or need to speak to one of us, drop us a message on Showbie and we will be able to call you. We’re just on the other end of Showbie so there is no need to be stuck!

Have a wonderful two days and we will see you all on Wednesday! Eek!

Suggested Timetable

Here is your suggested timetable for the next 2 days before we all are back together again in school on Wednesday! Yay!!

This is a suggested timetable but I would really recommend following this so it helps you to structure your time and guide you. There are 2 morning sessions and 2 afternoon sessions. I would suggest having a short 15 minute break between the two morning/afternoon sessions and make sure you have an hour for lunch like we would do in school. Get outside into your garden if you can and get some fresh air! Please send me all work that you complete on Showbie so that myself, Miss Quenby and Mr Cooper can give you some feedback. Remember, the session ends when you have completed the task to the best of your ability.

The tasks below will be organised in days. Monday first and then Tuesday for this week seeing as we are back in school on Wednesday. You will find your AM Session 1 & 2 and then your PM Session 1 & 2.

If you would like to send videos of you singing this song, that would be great! I warn you now though, it gets stuck in your head and is very annoying!

If you don’t fancy the song, this simple cartoon below helps you to hear and spot the use of modal verbs in conversation. I’ll leave it up to you to choose.

PM Session 1: French

L.O: To know and say animals in French.

PM Session 2: PE

L.O: To keep our bodies and minds fit and active.

For today’s PE lesson, you could either practise your PE lesson that you planned last week or you could follow a YouTube workout – or enjoy some fun exercise in your garden! Please remember that you are isolating so you can’t go out of your own house/garden. Ignore the date on the video – it doesn’t matter, just get active. Send photos to me on Showbie and see if you can get other people in your house involved too.

Autumn 2: Week 3: W/C 16th November (Bubble Closure Home Learning Tasks)

Hi Year 5. You have all transitioned back into home learning really well so well done! I know it can be tricky to motivate yourself to complete everything and work just as hard as you do in school but I know you can do it! I’d like to give a couple of shout outs for last week. Firstly, to Isabelle who has kept herself very busy on both days. It was great to see her little companion, Ruby, helping her with her work! Big shout out to Bobby who has also worked really hard – I know he really tried hard on his spellings too so well done! Shout out to Erin, Jack, Jayden, Oliver, Lauren, Isla and Annabelle who have all worked really hard on completing all of their Maths tasks.

I know that every single one of you is working super hard so keep it up!! Make sure you send your work to us on Showbie each day so we can see what you’ve been up to. Remember to check who is sending you a message on Showbie because it could be me, Miss Quenby or Mr Cooper!

We have one more full week to get through of home learning so try your very best! Then next week, it’s just Monday and Tuesday before we are back in school together on Wednesday. You can do it!

Please keep all of the work that you complete safe and in one place as I would like you to bring it all into school when we are back next week. We will be able to use some of your work in class when we return.

We are so proud of you all! Have a great week!

Miss Waite xx

Well, today you’re going to take that concept even further! You are going to think of ways that you can be naughty or wrong choices that some people might make. You are going to consider what impact this might have on others and then what action or choice you could make instead!

You could type on the word document below or print this off and hand write your answers. Or, you could draw your own table and write your answers yourself.

AM Session 2: Reading

This afternoon, you will be learning more about the Ancient Greek gods and goddesses. The reading comprehension you completed yesterday will help and I hope that this will help you to understand more about Zeus. Remember to use your ‘skim and scan’ skills to help you. Read the question carefully, underline key words, skim the text for the key words and scan around those key words to find the answer.

The document is differentiated (which means 1 star is the easiest one, 2 stars is medium and 3 stars is the most challenging). Make sure you challenge yourself appropriately. I would maybe have a scan over the questions first and decide before printing out the questions (if you are printing), or, if you write the answers on a piece of paper, don’t be afraid to move on to more challenging questions if you’re finding it quite easy.

AM Session 1: English

L.O: To plan a non-chronological report (SPAG focus on cohesion).

Head to the home learning video tutorial page to watch your pre-recorded video tutorial. Home Learning Video Tutorials

Today, I would like you to plan a non-chronological report about religious in Ancient Greece. Spend your English lesson today planning this, researching anything else that you need to. Make sure your plan is detailed so that when you come to write tomorrow, you have all the information you need and can focus on writing. Take a look at the picture below to remind you the purpose  of a non-chronological report: to inform or more specifically: describe the way things are.

Take a look at the structure and the language feature columns so you know what is expected of you and what you will need to plan.

We will also focus on cohesion when we are writing. Complete the warm up activity first and then move on to planning your non-chronological report about religion in Ancient Greece. Choose either the word document that you can edit or the PDF that you can print. When completing this warm up activity, use the word mat below to help you.

 PM Session 1: Music

L.O: To compose my own lyrics.

Miss Crowley, our Artforms Music teacher, has kindly prepared a video tutorial to help with composing your own lyrics for your own song.

Watch the video tutorial below and then write your own song. Record your song via video or send me the lyrics you write. Those budding performers – this task is for you!! Enjoy!!

PM Session 2: PE

L.O: To plan my own PE lesson.

For PE today, I would like you to plan your own PE lesson. You have done PE for your whole school life and you will be able to recall the PE lessons you enjoyed the most. Here is an opportunity for you to plan your own PE lesson. You WILL have an opportunity to teach your PE lesson to the rest of the class once we return to school (don’t worry, you can buddy up with a partner if you’d like). Perhaps, for this lesson, you could connect with a friend over the phone or video call and plan it together?

Remember to include the following for a good PE lesson:

  • Focus of the lesson (we always have a learning objective for every lesson e.g. L.O: To improve dribbling skills. L.O: To choreograph a dance.)
  • Warm up activity – it’s really important to warm up to get the blood flowing around our body and to make sure our muscles are ready to move. This also helps to prevent any injuries.
  • Main task: this is the focus of your lesson and is what you are teaching. E.g. a task linked to your learning objective. If your LO was to choreograph a dance, the main task would be everyone else having time to choreograph their own dance).
  • Cool down activity – it’s also important to make sure we cool down our bodies to bring our heart rate back down to resting level and to make sure we don’t just stop abruptly. This also helps to prevent injuries.

Consider the equipment you will need and if we have this in school. We do have lots of equipment in the PE cupboard remember!

I hope you enjoy this twist on a PE lesson. Make sure you are still active during the lesson to make sure you get your exercise in too! Send me what you’ve planned – this could be your notes, a video of what you’ve planned or pictures. Don’t lose this because we will be doing this in school together (I will have your videos on Showbie though).

Friday 20th November

AM Session 1: Maths

Today in Maths, we are going to learn something new again (some of you may be familiar with cube numbers). Take a look at the picture below of square and cube numbers. What do you notice?

Now, watch the video tutorial below and have a go at completing the worksheet. Do not worry if this is quite tricky. We will be enjoying some fun Burn2Learn Maths lessons when we are back to school to help you understand this concept in Maths. Give it your best shot!

Worksheet and answers

For this worksheet, it does say you need multilink cubes like we use in school. If you have square lego pieces, this would work or you could use your imagination or draw it! Perhaps if you are a a Minecraft gamer, you could do question 1 on minecraft (and then come back to the task of course).

PM Session 1: Art

Towards the end of the half term, as you already know, we will be designing and creating our own Greek inspired pots. I thought today in Art you might like to enjoy drawing one. This will help you when it comes to planning and designing your pot when we are back to school. I can’t wait to see what you draw! Remember, a great artist has many drafts before the final piece so it doesn’t matter if you slip up, just start another draft. Enjoy!

PM Session 2: PE

Your final PE lesson of the week! Last thing on a Friday in school you would enjoy a PE lesson so go outside and get some fresh air and exercise in your garden or enjoy an exercise video. There are some below for you to choose from or you might want to choose your own. Let me know what you decide to do! Check out the Just Dance one – that’s right up my street!! Enjoy!

Bubble Closure Tasks

Dear Year 5,

I am missing you all very much already but please know this time will fly by! You have all worked so hard during Year 5 so far so let’s work hard to keep up that fantastic attitude to learning and hard work and effort you have shown me every single day since you started back in September!

Soon, our Year 5 home learning page will fill up with activities and tasks and a suggested timetable for you to follow. You don’t have to follow this but it may be useful to help you structure your time. You can do the sessions in any order and the session ends once you have completed the task to the best of your ability! You must send me the work you complete each day on Showbie. Even though you are learning at home, you still need to complete the tasks that I set like we would do in class. Myself, Miss Quenby and Mr Cooper will then be giving you feedback on your work so make sure you check who is replying to your messages.

I am so proud of you all!! Be good! Work hard! We will be back together again before you even know it!

Lots of love,

Miss Waite xx

I hope you are all okay. Some of you have already been busy this morning and it has been great to see your History research come through. Shout out to Lila who was the first one to send me this completed piece of work! Well done! I can’t wait to hear from you all on Showbie.

I know we would all much prefer to be together in school but for now, we are all going to stay safe, at home. I am just a message away on Showbie.

I have provided a suggest timetable for you all for this afternoon. I have set another task on Reading Eggpress for you all as I know some of you will have already completed your homework. You can do the sessions in any order. I have not put a time limit on it because the session ends once you have completed the work.

Have a lovely afternoon!

Fancy a challenge?

The more stars, the trickier the challenge. Challenge 3 is really quite tricky! I would expect most of you to go for Challenge 1 and if you’re really feeling up for it, Challenge 2.

Friday 13th November

Here is your suggested timetable for today. Remember to give yourself regular breaks and an hour’s lunch break like you usually would have at school. During your breaks/lunch, get outside in your garden for some fresh air too!

We’re not in school together to say prayers and come together in worship but you can still do this at home. Perhaps you could create your own prayer table at home as your focus for the next 14 days.

Maths: L.O: To identify factors of numbers.

Here is an extension (this is similar to what we have already completed on multiples):

Factors: Differentiated Worksheets

Do you need something easier?

Rainbow Factor Pairs

SPAG Activity: L.O: To write a glossary and revise spellings.

Here are your spellings that you are being tested on later today. I would like you to find out more about these words.

If these are not your spellings for this week, then please do this for your own spellings.

Head to the video tutorials page to find out more about your task!  Home Learning Tutorials

You will need: lined paper, a pen, a dictionary (book form or on a tablet/iPad).

Spelling Test

Head to the video tutorials once you have completed your SPAG activity. I will guide you through your spelling test like I would do in class. I will do this for my group and Miss Quenby’s group on two separate videos.

Reading

Choose one of the tasks below to complete for your reading activity today. This does not replace your 15 minutes of reading for your homework. Please complete the activities based on the book you are reading.

PE

We always have PE on a Friday afternoon so today I would like you to do some exercise. It might be that you want to get outside and kick a ball around, go and have a run around in your garden or you could follow an exercise video. You can choose but I have given you some options to help you choose below:
