Please use this page to support you with your learning at home. Showbie is available during normal school hours so please send through any work you complete. We are just at the other end of Showbie.

Once you click on the video tutorial button, you will be taken to the secure video tutorial pages. You will need to enter the password to access the video tutorials that are uploaded. The password has been sent to your parents via email and I will also send you it through Showbie. Please keep the password safe and do not share it with anyone outside your class.

Reading around the subject

Choose any book linked to our topic or use online research to gather information. Complete a ‘Reading around the subject’ task to develop your subject knowledge and understanding around the topic and to build your vocabulary. If you don’t have any books at home, you can still read around the subject by carefully selecting reliable internet sources. Click the button below to download a template in a Word Document. You could print this and write it or type straight into the document then send it to me through Showbie.

Hello Year 4! I hope you all had a great, restful weekend. Check back on our Shout Outs page regularly because I will keep uploading your fantastic work. Keep being your amazing, hardworking selves and dive into this week’s learning.

PM Session 1: Geography

LO: To know the features and types of volcanoes.

PM Session 2: Computing

LO: To know how to be safe and kind online.

We learnt about online safety and we have discussed various tips we can give to keep ourselves and our personal information safe online. We will now also explore how we can stay safe and kind whilst we are online. Watch the video to find out how it is just as important to be kind online as it is to be kind in the real world. If anyone is unkind to you online, remember to Stop! Block! and Tell!

I am very excited to be moving on to our next inspiration for our writing this half term. We will get a feel for what it would be like living by the sea. PM Session: Free Choice Tasks!

This afternoon the choice is yours! You can do any of the following, but they are just suggestions:

  • Time to catch up on any activities you’ve not finished yet or would like more time on.
  • Mathletics or Reading Eggs activities.
  • Reading for pleasure.
  • Creative tasks such as baking, art, DT, research.
  • Doing physical activity outdoors or indoors.

Because you are choosing your own tasks for this afternoon, you don’t need to upload anything to Showbie. Enjoy the activities and make the most of your time!

We will learn about the importance of Readings and we will read Matthew 8:5-10 about how Jesus healed the centurion’s servant.

LO: To know how to create healthy habits.

Watch the video to learn more about how we can develop healthy habits when it comes to our diet, sleep or physical activity. Although at this moment we can’t play with each other or do sports like we used to, we can still find good ways to keep active with nice walks and regular indoor and outdoor exercise! LO: To use lines, shapes and colours for effect.

We will use our skills that we have developed with our previous tornado art to create a volcano drawing today. Previously, we have used lines for 3D effect and we have drawn many funnel shapes for our tornadoes. This time, you will use lines and shapes to create a drawing of a volcano. PM Session 2: PE

LO: To keep our bodies and minds fit and active.

We will write in detail about how Mount Vesuvius erupted. We will sequence events and then create our own descriptive recounts of the devastating eruption. Home Worship

Here are some songs to inspire you in your homes. Feel the presence of God as you sing along and enjoy the music. I have also included a short prayer to say with your usual prayers too. You could also set up your own prayer area in your home just like we have in school. Choose a quiet and comfortable place where you can place a candle, some flowers, a Bible or some Bible Scriptures that you can use to reflect on.

Thank you so much for your presence in our lives. Thank you for the blessings You have given us in our families, teachers and friends! Also, thank you for the opportunity to continue to learn, even though we may not be able to be in the classroom. Amen.

Monday 11th January

Today we will be solving multiplication and division questions with the 9 times table. To help you learn the 9 times table, watch the space dog video and count along in 9s. LO: To investigate how society was structured in ancient Rome.

Find out more about Roman society and the Roman Empire by watching the video.

PM Session 1: Music

LO: To evaluate music.

Benjamin Britten was an English composer who was born and lived in Suffolk. He started composing as a child and by the age of 18 he’d written more than 700 pieces! He wrote the opera ‘Peter Grimes’ in 1945. It’s about a community struggling to make their living by the sea. Peter Grimes is a fisherman but the locals think of him as an outsider and don’t trust him. The orchestral interludes including ‘Storm’ are sandwiched in between the sung acts to build the drama and suspense of the story. Listen out for: The thunderous timpani and raging brass at the beginning as the storm swells. Also listen for when the harp plays representing the sun shining through the storm clouds.

In English we will evaluate effective word choices and we will be exploring synonyms as we build our own word banks to describe the earthquake in Pompeii. I would like you to record your ideas today about the earthquake that happens when Tranio is at the theatre. I will share some of my ideas with you on the video tutorial and then I would like you to think about words and phrases that you would use to describe the tremors and their conseqences to the environment. We will take inspiration from artwork depicting tornadoes and we will plan and start sketching our own tornadoes. Before you start drawing, watch the video tutorial where we will learn more about sketching lightly and creating different effects using lines.
