What have year 1 been up to?

A Special Shout Out & Thank You!

A very special shout out is needed indeed for some very special people in our St Joseph’s community..

As your home learning comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you and give a massive shout out to all of our parents and carers at St Joseph’s! Our very special parents and carers have been amazing in supporting you all in your home learning journeys for the past 16 weeks and we say a huge THANK YOU!! We hope all of our families have a very well rested break over the summer holidays!

Shout out

A huge shout out to Emily for her brilliant idea! Emily had a polar day with her mum and her little brother. They had a go at a science experiment where they measured the volume of water before adding ice cubes (icebergs!). They then waited for the icebergs to melt and measured the difference in the water levels. There are lots of polar animals in the water too! Great work!

Shout out

A huge shout out to Edward as he has been working hard to solve the mystery of the missing treasure! Edward worked through the different math’s clues to work out who the culprit was! He persevered through lots of different questions and got to the correct answer, great job Edward! Maybe you could have a go at solving the mystery too?

Shout out

Shout out to this little mathematician who has been working hard on his maths and his colouring! He has been working on his addition knowledge, working out the calculation and finding the colour that correlates with this answer. He has really enjoyed using his art skills to help with his maths learning. Who else would like a turn at this activity?

Shout out

I am super impressed with Juliet’s fantastic fruit salad! Juliet has been working hard on her home learning tasks and chose this activity from the learning grid. Juliet used her DT skills from back in the Autumn term when we were learning how to cut fruit safely and she did such a great job! It looks very yummy Juliet, well done!

Shout out

Shout out to our musician who has been doing his music lesson with Mr Mercer. He has been learning lots of different things alongside his sister who loved joining in as well. Perhaps we will have a musical duo act in years to come? Mr Mercer’s music lesson is on the Learning at Home page if you want to have a go. Well done to you!

Shout out

Shout out to Lucy who has been working hard learning about the Arctic and Antarctic, where they are in relation to other continents and she has even written some facts about these places! Lucy has worked hard to identify where the different continents are and told me about her favourite place to visit in Europe! Well done Lucy!

Shout out

I am super impressed with our phonics master, practicing his reading using real words and alien words. He has been working so hard to read these independently and then sort them into real and alien words. I wonder if anyone else could sort some words? Is anyone up to the challenge?

Shout out

How great is Elin’s arctic model?! She has been working hard at home to create a arctic scene. Elin told me that it was definitely an arctic scene and not an antarctic scene because there are no penguins here just like in the arctic. Keep up your hard work Elin!

Shout out

Shout out to our musician who has been learning how to play the keyboard at home. He has decided to do this all by himself which is a great skill to practice whilst at home. I wonder if anyone else can play a musical instrument and if so, what is it?

Shout out

I am super impressed with our star writer who was so excited to share her writing with me! She has completed a piece of writing all about what she can see out of her window. I know that there were plenty of other children who completed this task which were also brilliant! She has been working very hard from home and I am very proud!

Shout out

Shout out to Andrew for his brilliant letter! Andrew has been working really hard with his handwriting and his spellings and the hard work is certainly paying off! I absolutely loved reading this letter and it really made my day. Fabulous Andrew, I am very proud.

Shout out

A big well done to this superstar who has been taking part in weekly zoom lessons with her French club. She has been keeping me up to date with all of the learning she is doing and has been sending videos of her speaking in French! This video was when she was practicing some greetings.

Shout out

I am super impressed with our artist who jumped at the chance to draw his favourite animal. Of course he chose a shark! The drawing is brilliant and I really like the colour you have used. I am very proud of your hard work and this excellent drawing!

Shout out

Shout out to this brilliant big sister who has taken the time out of her day and out of her own home learning to help her little sister practice her letter formation. She is so calm and patient with her throughout the little video I was sent and is definitely a teacher in the making! Brilliant to see.

Shout out

A huge well done to Eleanor who has worked hard to make a baby penguin using different materials around the house! It looks super cute and you worked really hard to make it the very best you could. Lovely to see you enjoying our topic. Well done!

Shout out

I am super impressed with this hairstyle for our wacky hair day! It looks amazing and the googly eyes are so effective! Great effort. Lots of other people made a brilliant effort with this too and it was such a fun day so thank you all!

Shout out

Shout out to this Philip who worked so hard to create a boat for Emily’s Wednesday challenge! It really is super and I know Emily will love it! I love how you worked with your family to make it the very best boat it can be! Philip designed his boat and then gathered the materials to make it and I must say, it looks incredible!

Shout out

A huge well done to someone else who completed our first Wednesday Challenge. He has carefully designed his boat and chosen everything on it that he thinks he would like to make his boat. I really like his Pokemon theme as you can see Pikachu riding high at the top! Well done!

Shout out

I am super impressed with Ryker who has been working very hard to make a raft with his dad in the garden. They worked so hard together as a team to build this and I know just how proud they were when they finished it. I wonder if it would float and you could ride on it somewhere? Very proud, well done!

Shout out

Shout out to Abigail who has not only planned and written an ‘Under the Sea’ story, she has then gone onto the computers and typed it up independently. It is a brilliant story Abi with excellent ideas and I am really proud of you for being super independent. I also love the colour of the font!

A big shout out to Bea who has been keeping me laughing throughout lock down. I always enjoyed logging onto Showbie to see what work everybody had been up too and getting a notification from Bea with another amazing joke. Thank you for the laughs Bea, you are a joy!
