Our long term plan ensures coverage of each subject area across the curriculum and is monitored by each subject leader alongside a range of other monitoring tasks that ensure coverage and progression. Teachers may change the order of some topics where there is justification to do so, but will still ensure coverage of all topics across all subject areas.

Academic Year 2023-24
Welcome back to school! I hope you have enjoyed your summer holiday and you’re ready for a brilliant year in Year 5! I am super excited to be welcoming you back into school and into your brand new classroom in Year 5. We have some great things planned for Year 5 so I hope you can start to feel excited for the year ahead!
I will do everything I can this year to make sure you are all happy, confident, engaged and active learners and that you embrace all the opportunities that Year 5 brings. This of course includes some more responsibilities which I am sure you are all up for the challenge of!
The Year 5 curriculum will be tailored to engage the children in their learning, build on the their interests, make links to their previous learning in other years as well as to their role in the community of Wetherby, and the wider world itself. The children will be encouraged to be active, resilient and ambitious learners, aiming for the very best they can achieve academically, personally and spiritually. There will be experiences built in along the way to inspire learning and to inspire the children for their future roles as active citizens. All the children will be able to succeed and thrive by giving their very best efforts!
Keep checking our class web page, as very soon, it will start to fill up with all of the fun learning we get up to in Year 5!

Y5 & Y6 Statutory SpellingsAt St Joseph’s, we are so grateful for the invaluable support that our parents and carers provide for our pupils. We know how well our families have been able to adapt to home learning so now that we can welcome all of our pupils back to school, we wanted to provide opportunities for our pupils to continue their learning at home, if they choose to. The homework given will prepare and support your child’s learning across the curriculum each half term. The homework tasks below are optional. If you would also like to read our homework policy, please follow the link below.
