Academic Year 2021-22
Welcome back to school!! I hope you have enjoyed your summer holiday and you’re ready for a brilliant year in Year 5! I am super excited to be welcoming you back into school and into your brand new class in Year 5. I can’t wait to get to know you all better and have some fun. We have some great things planned for Year 5 so I hope you can start to feel excited for the year ahead. I have heard such great things about you all and how you are such a great class to teach so I can’t wait to see that for myself!
I will do everything I can this year to make sure you are all happy, confident, engaged and active learners and that you embrace all the opportunities that Year 5 brings. This of course includes some more responsibilities which I am sure you are all up for the challenge of!
The Year 5 curriculum will be tailored to engage the children in their learning, build on the their interests, make links to their previous learning in other years as well as to their role in the community of Wetherby, and the wider world itself. The children will be encouraged to be active, resilient and ambitious learners, aiming for the very best they can achieve academically, personally and spiritually. There will be experiences built in along the way to inspire learning and to inspire the children for their future roles as active citizens. All the children will be able to succeed and thrive by giving their very best efforts!
Keep checking our class web page, as very soon, it will start to fill up with all of the fun learning we get up to in Year 5!

Please encourage your children to practise these compulsory Year 5 and 6 spellings, these are essential and should be practised alongside weekly spellings.
Y5 & Y6 Statutory SpellingsAt St Joseph’s, we are so grateful for the invaluable support that our parents and carers provide for our pupils. We know how well our families have been able to adapt to home learning so now that we can welcome all of our pupils back to school, we wanted to provide opportunities for our pupils to continue their learning at home, if they choose to. The homework given will prepare and support your child’s learning across the curriculum each half term. The homework tasks below are optional. If you would also like to read our homework policy, please follow the link below.
