Please use this page to support you with your learning at home. Showbie is available during normal school hours so please send through any work you complete. We are just at the other end of Showbie.

  • Weekly tasks and activities set that are linked to the Year 4 curriculum
  • Daily video tutorials that will support the activities set (Please follow the link below for this).

Home Learning Video Tutorials

Once you click on the video tutorial button, you will be taken to the secure video tutorial pages. You will need to enter the password to access the video tutorials that are uploaded. The password has been sent to your parents via email and I will also send you it through Showbie. Please keep the password safe and do not share it with anyone outside your class.

Reading around the subject

Choose any book linked to our topic or use online research to gather information. Complete a ‘Reading around the subject’ task to develop your subject knowledge and understanding around the topic and to build your vocabulary. If you don’t have any books at home, you can still read around the subject by carefully selecting reliable internet sources. Click the button below to download a template in a Word Document. You could print this and write it or type straight into the document then send it to me through Showbie.

Week 8 – w/c 1st March 2021

Hello Year 4! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. We did it! This week is our last week of home learning and we are back in school next week. Yay! I am so looking forward to seeing all of you again. You should be so proud of yourselves as you have been doing absolutely amazing!

Read some of my tips about organising your days: To start off your morning, check in with Mrs Frost, Max the worry monster and me on Showbie. After your check ins, have a look at the timetable and get ready for your learning. Remember to pause the video tutorials to practise your skills and give yourselves regular small breaks through the videos. You can work alongside the video or complete the worksheets afterwards. When I think you should work alongside the tutorial, I will also remind you as part of my video. After completing the worksheets, check your answers and upload your work to Showbie to show off your super learning. If you have any questions at all, just write to us on Showbie!

PM Session: Free Choice Tasks!

It’s free choice time now. It’s the perfect time to get involved in our whole school community project ‘Lockdown Lessons’. Let me remind you of our fantastic whole school lockdown project. Last lockdown we all came together to produce a beautiful Lockdown Tapestry and this lockdown we would like to invite you to join us in another project! We would like to produce a book, collectively as a school community, entitled: ‘Lessons in lockdown. Reflections by pupils of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Wetherby’. We are really looking forward to receiving your fantastic pieces of writing about your experiences of lockdown and what you have learnt. This afternoon could be a great time for you to have a think and get creative with your writing.

PM Session: Chatterbox Session and World Book Day Activities

Watch the video tutorial where I explain what I would like you to prepare for the session. Spend this afternoon preparing your clues about your characters and having a go at the fun World Book Day activities I uploaded to the website. Click here to go to the Year 4 video tutorials page.

Our focus for the session is: World Book Day. Bring your amazing costume or a prop from your favourite book to the Chatterbox session on World Book Day. Write down or think of three clues you will give to everyone about who you’re dressed up as (even if your costume is very obvious). Also have a think about what you are most looking forward to when we come back to school next week!

Today’s Chatterbox session will be starting at 1:45pm. You will be able to enter the waiting room 5 minutes before our starting time so we can all start the session promptly together. I am really looking forward to seeing you all!

This afternoon you have a lot of free choices of World Book Day activities. Reading is the obvious and best choice! Read, read and read. Picture books, chapter books, newspapers, poems, magazines, Reading Eggs and any other text you can get your hands on. Click on the button to get the latest edition of First News. First News

Create an area in your room where you can pretend you are at the beach or by a pool. Be imaginative and let your reading take you to various adventures and places!

LO: To recall multiplication and division facts up to 12×12.

There are a lot of ways that you can practise your times tables and you can choose which fun way and which times tables you want to work with today. Look at the activity booklet where you will be able to find a lot of multiplication facts and division facts that you can work with. Remember that you are practising and it is fine to use your times table grids to refer to them and check if you got the calculations right. PM Session: Chatterbox Session

We don’t have to only focus on what we are giving up, but also what we can give to others. You could follow or make your own kindness chart for Lent with 40 small acts of kindness. PM Session 2: Computing

LO: To explore what things we can trust on the Internet.

It is Safer Internet Day today. To carry on with our computing learning, I would like you to start by watching a video that has great pointers about why not everything that we can find on the Internet is true or correct. After you watched the clip, you can become an Internet Detective. Dive into the search activities and see what you can find. You could research our geography topic Extreme Earth or our science topic about animals and their habitats.

This week, it is Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good. PM Session: Chatterbox Session

Our focus for the session is: Proud Moments. After lunch time today, you will have the chance to think about a proud moment you had relating to your learning. What have you done really well? Did you achieve a certificate? Are you proud of your music skills you improved? Have you done a piece of super writing or used various maths presentations really well in your calculations? Choose a piece of work and create an interactive piece of work out of it with moving concertinas and flaps with added extra information. Today’s Chatterbox session will be starting at 2:15pm. You will have noticed that the invitation to join Zoom was set for 2pm. This is so that we can troubleshoot any technological issues at the start and you will be able to enter the waiting room between 2pm and 2:15pm, and then from there you will be let into the session at the same time.

Please check your Showbie messages at 9am every morning and let us know how you are doing as you are starting your day. Home Worship

You could also set up your own prayer area in your home just like we have in school. Choose a quiet and comfortable place where you can place a candle, some flowers, a Bible or some Bible Scriptures that you can use to reflect on.

PM Session 1: Music

LO: To evaluate music.

Benjamin Britten was an English composer who was born and lived in Suffolk. He started composing as a child and by the age of 18 he’d written more than 700 pieces! He wrote the opera ‘Peter Grimes’ in 1945. It’s about a community struggling to make their living by the sea. Peter Grimes is a fisherman but the locals think of him as an outsider and don’t trust him. The orchestral interludes including ‘Storm’ are sandwiched in between the sung acts to build the drama and suspense of the story. Listen out for: The thunderous timpani and raging brass at the beginning as the storm swells. Also listen for when the harp plays representing the sun shining through the storm clouds.

We will take inspiration from artwork depicting tornadoes and we will plan and start sketching our own tornadoes.
