Please use this page to support you with your learning at home. Showbie is available during normal school hours so please send through any work you complete. We are just at the other end of Showbie.

Stay Safe Online!

Whilst you are learning at home, you will be online more than usual over the next few weeks so it is important that you remember to stay safe online. Remember to STOP, BLOCK & TELL an adult if you see or hear something online that worries you.

This is our last week of home learning! Let’s all try our very best and motivate one another to give 100%. Here is your suggested timetable for this week.  Remember, this suggested timetable is a guide for you which I hope will help you to organise your time and feel like you know what you’re doing and when. This week on Thursday at 10.15am  is our weekly Chatter Natter session. This is based on World book Day. More details about this session will be on the tutorials page. Remember you can wear your world book day costume if you wish to do so. Thursday’s activities will be based around world book day.

PM Session 2 : Free choice reading/PE

For World Book day week, I would like you to enjoy some time reading either a story book, comic, newspaper, cereal box or non fiction book of your choice. This time will go towards the sponsored readathon, if this is something you have chosen to take part in. You can also use this time to complete a reading eggs assignment, if you wish to, this will also count as reading. Just relax and enjoy some reading time.

Following this, here is a body coach tutorial for you to enjoy and participate in for an extra challenge.

PM Session : Free choice tasks

This is the last week to complete any entries for the ‘Lessons in lockdown’ challenge. This is the perfect time to complete this activity to have your entry published in the book and to design the front cover for it. Watch the tutorial for some ideas.

  • finish off any incomplete work from this week or last week;

Spring 2 Week 1 – W/C 22nd February 2021

Hello Year 3. I hope you all had a lovely half term break and are all feeling well rested. Welcome back. Hopefully it won’t be long now until we can all be reunited.

As always, you have complete free choice on the tasks/activities you choose. This could be finishing any learning, Mathletics, Reading Eggs or going on spelling shed. You could also choose to do something creative if you’d prefer such as  baking, painting or going for a bike ride – anything you want! It’s a free choice afternoon! On Wednesday afternoons, I won’t expect anything to be uploaded on to Showbie.

LO: To make links between the story of Zacchaeus and beliefs about Jesus and forgiveness.

This half term, we start our new topic in RE ‘Called to change’, where we focus on learning about God’s love and forgiveness he always shows us. This week we are going to look at the story of Zacchaeus, the tax collector and reflect on what this teaches us about forgiveness. I would like you to write first as if you are Zacchaeus and then reflect upon how Jesus treated Zacchaeus, who was a well known tax collector.

Hello Year 3. We are now entering week 6 of our home learning journey! It’s our last week before half-term, so lets give it our all and motivate it each other throughout the week!

Lessons in lockdown

Hello, just a reminder about the whole school lessons in lockdown project.

Last lockdown we all came together to produce a beautiful Lockdown Tapestry and this lockdown we would like to invite you to join us in another project! It’s ambitious but we think we can do it! We would like to produce a book, collectively as a school community, entitled: ‘Lessons in lockdown. Reflections by pupils of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Wetherby’.
But to do this we need your input! You are invited to submit one of the following:
• a short poem
• a short story
• a diary entry
• a picture
• a descriptive piece
• a favourite recipe
• most interesting thing/fact you have learnt during lockdown

Closing date for all submissions for the book and entries for the competition is is Friday 12th February 2021. Entries received after this date can not be included unfortunately, as the book will have gone to print. We can’t wait to see how creative you are!

PM Session : 1 Computing/Safer Internet day

Today marks safer internet day 2021. We have spoken about how to keep ourselves safe when using the internet. That is we always ask an adult first to use the internet, we never give away any personal information about ourselves such as our name, age, which school we attend and our address. Most importantly, if anything makes us feel uncomfortable we immediately STOP, BLOCK AND TELL!

We learnt about online safety and we have discussed various tips we can give to keep ourselves and our personal information safe online. We will now also explore how we can stay safe and kind whilst we are online. Watch the video to find out how it is just as important to be kind online as it is to be kind in the real world. This week, it is Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good. During your free afternoon session this week, you may like to choose some of the activities from the suggested grid over on the main Home Learning page. It looks like this:

Here is your suggested timetable for this week.  Remember, this suggested timetable is a guide for you which I hope will help you to organise your time and feel like you know what you’re doing and when. This week on Tuesday at 1pm we have a new addition to the time table -our weekly Chatter Natter session. More details about this session will be on the tutorials page Tuesday morning. Mrs Lowe and I are super excited about seeing you and having a ‘chatter natter.’ There will be a task to complete following this. The ‘chatter natter’ session is completely optional. You will still be able to complete the task set for this.

Following on from last week,  you  have a free choice afternoon on a Wednesday. This means you have complete free choice on the tasks/activities you choose. This could be finishing any learning, Mathletics, Reading Eggs or going on spelling shed. You could also choose to do something creative if you’d prefer such as  baking, painting or going for a bike ride – anything you want! It’s a free choice afternoon! On Wednesday afternoons, I won’t expect anything to be uploaded on to Showbie.

Last week we looked at the artist Henri Rousseau and you looked a this Rainforest inspired paintings. This week, you have a tutorial  below where you can have a go a sketching leaves. I put on 2 videos so you can challenge yourself further on the second one. Remember, you can complete the tutorial as many times as you like as your first attempt is just that! Artists practise and refine their work so have several attempts until you achieve something that you are happy with. Also, don’t try to be too neat! The shading should look a bit more edgy and sharp rather than perfectly neat and blended together. Please send your finished art work to me on Showbie and any practise attempts you do too so I can see the learning journey to the final piece. Enjoy the tutorial and happy drawing.

Visit the tutorials page for this lesson where we will be working together. We will be including adverbs in our writing, specifically the adverbs that end in ‘ly’ , like quickly. If you  have forgotten what an adverb is please watch the you tube video first. This video will also refresh what an adjective is too. Remember an adjective describes a noun.

Continuing with our learning journey, we are going to be self assessing our letter and considering how we can edit and improve it. You will need your letter you wrote yesterday. For this lesson it would be good to have a different colour pen, if possible, to edit and improve your letter. For our second P.E. lesson this week we are going to be building on the skills from the previous lesson. You are going to explore different throwing techniques used in cricket for bowling. Whole School Closure – Tuesday 5th January 2021

Hello to our wonderful Year 3 class and welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families and happy new year!

I hope you are all doing well and you excited for our next learning journey together in Year 3 (albeit a bit differently this half term).  Our new topic this half term is ‘The Rainforest’ which links in with our new topic in Science on light. This is one of my favourite topics to teach! I know this is not how we planned to start 2021, but we are all this together and I know you will all shine like the little stars that you are. Mrs Lowe, Miss Oszoy and I will all be checking in with you daily on showbie before we start our home learning so let us know how you are feeling by giving us a thumbs up or by an emoji.

The tutorials, suggested timetable and other activities here on the home learning page will be available from Wednesday 6th January.

As you know, it is just as important to look after our minds and bodies by being physically active. I hope you enjoy this Joe Wicks work HIT workout just as much as I did. Remember to warm up first, this will warm your muscles up and make sure you’re ready for the main HIT workout. You will need a water bottle and possibly a towel.
