Week 8 – W/C 1st March 2021

Moordown St. John's C of E Primary School | We-made-it

Hello Year 2! Welcome to the final week of home learning – Week 8! What a journey we have all been on over the past eight weeks. Your resilience to the changes you have faced with learning at home have made team Year 2 so proud! We have enjoyed taking you on the journey of home learning (round two) and seeing all the creative ways you have adapted to our home learning challenges. It has been a rollercoaster for us all, but we hope you are proud of yourself for everything you have achieved.

You have kept us smiling with your efforts and perseverance throughout the home learning journey and we are glad we have had this opportunity to be with you every step of the way. We hope you can all take lots of positives from your time at home as these will be special memories for you in the future.

We wanted to put together a snap shot of some of your work and pictures that have made us smile over the past 8 weeks. The pictures and work that we have selected are ones where we have seen your talents shine! The standard of your work at home has been incredible Year 2, and we can’t wait to see it all in the classroom next week! Here is a picture from each of your home learning journeys…

For your Monday morning check in we would love to know what you have enjoyed doing in the sunshine over the weekend and how it made you feel! I have really enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend and it has made me feel refreshed, happy and ready to take on the week! I read on Showbie that some of you were looking forward to an ice-cream if it was sunny! That is exactly what my boys asked for, so we went to our favorite Vegan ice-cream van in Roundhay park!

We love seeing what you get up to and what makes you smile, so send us a picture on your morning check in on Showbie! Here are a few of my happy pictures from the weekend which include ice-cream, climbing steep hills fun with the boys (including Scholsey)!

This week will be continuing with our Great Outdoors topic and it is also World Book Day this week so another great activity to look forward too!

We hope you have a great final week of home learning and we can’t wait to see you back in the classroom on the 8th of March!

Home Worship

This week we have entered our third week in Lent. For our home worship this week I would like to make some links to our RE lesson. We are learning all about Mass this half term, so it would be lovely if you could create your own worship area in your house. I know some of you already have a worship area, but maybe you could take time to reflect on the features of your worship area and share ideas with your friends on how they can make a special place for prayer in your house. Here are some ideas of what home prayer area might look like…

Gospel Readings

As part of your home worship this week I would like you to think about the story of The Last Supper. This links to our RE lesson this week so you could watch the video as part of your worship in your RE lesson if you wanted.

In class there is always paper on our altar for you to write your own prayers.  Please keep sharing your prayers with us on Showbie. It has been lovely to share your prayers and use your prayers for our daily worship.

Here is some paper you might like to use to write your prayers on:

PM Session 1 : RE

L.O. To understand and know about the Mass.

Today it is our first RE lesson for the half term. We are starting our new RE topic called The Mass. Today we are going to reflect on our ideas about what we already know about Mass. I know it has been a really tricky time over the past year to go to Mass and we have embraced Mass online as well.

I hope this topic develops your understanding about Mass and the important symbols we have during the Mass. Try and book in to go to Mass over the Easter period and share your experiences of Mass with us on Showbie. I know that you all light up Canon’s day when he sees you in Mass and at school, so lets make an extra special effort to experience Mass either online or at church over this Easter period.

Today I would like you to watch the video in our home worship section about The Last Supper. It is also below so you can watch it here too.

I would like you to think about how this story links into part of The Mass as one your questions today.

Here is another version of the story that you might like to read too:

Where have you seen the gifts?

Do the gifts link to any stories you know? Why?

Week 5 – W/C 1st February 2021

Hello Year 2, and welcome to Week 5 of home learning. Before we start another week of home learning we just want to tell you all that we think you (and your parents) are doing a fantastic job with your learning at home challenges. This lockdown is hard for all of us! The weather is cold, the mornings and nights are dark plus over the year we have been sent with so many challenges  to overcome. After speaking to you on the phone last week, and on Showbie every day we just want you to remember that whatever you are doing, and is working for you as a family – it is all fine with us. We want you all to be happy and learning whatever you can at home. Some days will be better than others, so try and do your English/Phonics and Maths challenge each day and then take a break. As we move into Week 5, we know the novelty of home schooling will be wearing off, but remember we are here for you so please just get in touch if you need anything at all.

This morning, as part of your check in we would like you to tell us one thing that made you smile over the weekend and one thing you are proud of. You can send a picture to us on Showbie, send us a voice note or just write a few words. It’s nice to make a note of the things that make you smile and things you are proud of during these tricky times. I like to do it as a family at the end of the day with our end of the day prayer. Maybe it’s something you could try this week and see how it makes you feel.

Here are mine from the weekend to get you started….

This weekend we celebrated one of my children’s 2nd birthdays! We never thought we would be having a lockdown birthday but we tried to make the celebrations as special as they could be. It made me smile seeing the boys faces light up when they had a Frozen movie night, treat breakfasts and a vegan afternoon tea!! I’m sure you will all enjoy some of the pictures! This weekend I am proud of myself for organising his birthday and taking a break this weekend to make his lockdown birthday special!

We can’t wait to hear about what has made you happy and what you are proud of this week! Please share your feelings with us on Showbie!

This week, it is Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good. During your free afternoon session this week, you may like to choose some of the activities from the suggested grid over on the main Home Learning page. It looks like this:

Here is the suggested timetable for Year 2 for week 5 of Home Learning. We hope this helps and you can enjoy some of the activities we have planned for you.

Week 5 – Suggested Timetable

Remember, this suggested timetable is a guide for you which we hope will help you organise your time. We know that some days will be more successful than others, so be kind to your self and take regular breaks!

Remember we are just a message away on Showbie. If you are really stuck or need any help, drop us a message and we can help you. If you would like a phone call, we are more than happy to do that so just send us a message.

Monday 1st February 2021

L.O: To plan a leaflet about the Victorians

For your English lesson this week we will be building up the skills to write a leaflet about the Victorians. You will need to draw on all your research that you have done so far this half term and have you reading around the subject with you for your English lessons this week. Today I would like you to watch my video and then have a go at planning your own leaflet to present facts about the Victorians.

If we were in school, we would be taking part in Victorian day, and visiting Armley Mills museum. As we can’t do that right now, your challenge is to create a leaflet to teach other children and adults about the Victorians. We will use your leaflets in our Victorian museum in class when we are back to school.

Click here to watch your English lesson today

After you have watched and taken part in the English lesson, I would like you to have a go at planning your own leaflet. I have put the Top Tips below with a planning sheet. You might want to create your own plan, linking back to some of the plans you have created in Year 1 and 2. The choice is yours! You will need your plan for tomorrows lesson. This lesson may take you more than an hour as you will need to add detail to your plan. The more detail you add, the easier it will be tomorrow to write your leaflet!

Send your leaflets to us on Showbie so we can see if you are on the right lines ready for tomorrows writing lesson!
