What is Leeds 2023: Year of Culture?
Leeds is currently experiencing a full ‘Year of Culture’. and St Joseph’s are going to be involved in this throughout the year of 2023. Leeds 2023 have received funding for a year long programme to celebrate culture all around Leeds.
Through the programme, partnerships and promotion of the brilliant culture in our city, Leeds 2023 aim to:

Unlock opportunities for everyone to find enjoyment and live their best life through participating in creative activity

Boost engagement in culture particularly among people who face barriers because of their experience or circumstances

Lead and showcase cultural transformation

Play an active role in the city and region’s social, economic and cultural recovery from the pandemic
A huge aspect of the programme is the involvement of schools and St Joseph’s are fully involved in this fantastic year!!

The Awakening – first event of our Year of Culture
Staff members and families attended The Awakening, the first event of our Year of Culture which was a spectacular event celebrating Leeds’ cultural past, present and future. This took place at Headingley Stadium and featured Corinne Bailey Rae, Simon Armitage and LYR, The Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North and many more creative acts!
