Children’s Mental Health Week
The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself.
Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.

During this period of home learning we are encouraging our children to access online resources. When doing this we want to ensure that children are staying safe and know what to do if they come across something that they are unsure of or uncomfortable with.
Please continue to remind your child of the “STOP, BLOCK, TELL” message that the children have learnt in school.
The simple message is designed to keep your child safe when learning online. The message teaches them that if they see something they are unsure or do not like whilst using their tablet or computer they STOP what they are doing BLOCK it by turning it off or coming away from it and TELL an adult straight away.
Please also ensure that you reiterate to your child that they must ask to go on any devices before they do so and be supervised at all times.
Please see your child’s class page for additional E-Safety messages, resources and activities specifically aimed at your child.
Please also use the “Think you know” resources and additional links below to support your child in learning about E-Safety.

- arrange fresh flowers on your prayer table at home
- draw an arrangement of colourful flowers and put them on your bedside table
- sketch a picture of Mary our Mother
- make your very own rosary
- say the rosary with your family
- create a poem devoted to Mary
- sing a hymn devoted to Mary, together as a family

A Message from Canon Timothy Swinglehurst, Episcopal Vicar for Education
As we enter into Holy Week, I am reminded of the words of one of my favourite hymns, ‘It is a thing most wonderful’. When we sing hymns in school or church, we can sometimes fail to spot the beauty of the text. As I read the words of this hymn and listen to the attached music, there is something about them which makes the pieces of our faith fall into place. It explains with such simplicity the journey of Jesus’ life: from his immaculate conception, his humble upbringing, his suffering on the cross for the love of those who rejected him, to his resurrection and ascension to that place where we will all see him one day.
The author of the words was William Walsham How, the first Anglican Bishop of Wakefield. The setting is by a local composer, Philip Moore who for 25 years was the organist of York Minster. It was commissioned by and composed for the Choir of Wakefield Cathedral. Follow the words and listen to the contrast of the melodic opening and closing verses compared with the furiousness of the middle verse which speaks of the cruel nails and thorns – there is a sense of relief once you get past verse 3 – like the relief Jesus himself felt once his suffering was over. The final verse, a moving duet for two trebles, is the most beautiful prayer and one which we can all use throughout Holy Week as we try our best, in our own ways and throughout our busy lives to keep the flame burning within our hearts and to love the Lord more and more.
Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, Blessed be the King of Israel, Blessed be the King that cometh in the Name of the Lord. Peace in heav’n and glory in the highest places. Hosanna in the highest heav’ns.
