Week 5 – W/C 1st February 2021
Suggested Timetable

Welcome back, we hope you have all enjoyed a lovely and restful weekend with your families.

This week, it is Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good. During your free afternoon session this week, you may like to choose some of the activities from the suggested grid over on the main Home Learning page. It looks like this:

This week we are looking at a new book “Whatever next!” so get your space suits and rockets ready as we get ready to launch into space on our very own space mission! We have added even more fantastic learning to our “Home learning proud moments page”, make sure you take a look at what the rest of FS2 are getting up to whilst learning at home.

This weeks suggested timetable includes our new Chatterbox session! Please choose one piece of work that you are proud of to bring to the session and hold up for all your friends to see. We are really looking forward to seeing you all there! Please remember, this suggested timetable is a guide for you which I hope will help you to organise your time and feel like you know what you’re doing and when. However, I know that this may not work for everyone and it is important that home learning works for you and your family.

This week we are going to explore humans in space! Start by watching the clip about the first successful trip to the moon in 1969. Parents where possible try and put the year 1969 into context for your child. How old would their grandparents have been when this happened or other family members, do they remember it happening? You could ask them about it next time you have a phone call or facetime.

Moon Landing

Then explain that since then people have ventured into space many times and that Astronauts from all over the world live and work in space on the International Space Station. The picture below is of the crew that are there right now!

Now watch the video clips below that explain why Astronauts are in space and what life is like living in space! Once you have watched each clip, discuss the similarities and differences between living in space and living on Earth. Try encourage your child to consider why this is and explain their ideas.

Ask the following questions:
Why do people live and work in space?
What are they learning about?
Why are they floating around?
What is the same and what is different?

Imagine you are an Astronaut

To help consolidate their learning, ask your child to choose their favorite clip or part that they have learnt today and either ask them to draw and label it to be sent to us on Tapestry or film them explaining what they have learnt and how it is similar or different to living on Earth.
