At St Joseph’s we provide a science curriculum designed to excite children’s curiosity of the world around them. We strive to make learning as practical and as hands-on as possible, encouraging children to think and work scientifically. This enables children to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave and analyse causes. Teachers provide cross curricular opportunities in Science to embed English and mathematical skills throughout the curriculum. At St Joseph’s we encourage our children to apply their knowledge, skills and ideas in real life contexts both within and outside the classroom to become aware of science in the wider world.

St Joseph’s Approach to Science Science Long Term Plan

Tracking Progress in Science:

We use Target Tracker to record the progress of each child in science. See the band posters for each year group below:

Year 1Year 2Year 3Year 4 Year 5 Year 6

Annual Science Fair

Each year, we give Year 3 & 4 pupils the opportunity to design and create their own interactive and educational Science games. The whole school then comes to visit the different games and develop their own Science knowledge whilst they are there. It is a fantastic afternoon that the children love!
